Position: Relief - Street Outreach Worker
Na-Me-Res (Native Men’s
Residence), located in Toronto, is a diverse, multi-service organization. It offers a 56-bed men’s shelter, Tumivut, a 40-bed
youth centre, and delivers a distinct package of outreach services to people
who are homeless.
MAIN FUNCTION:
We are seeking an
enthusiastic person to participate in the delivery of our Outreach Services
Program which includes: addressing the basic needs of people who are homeless,
confidential case management service to assist clients to affect a life away
from homelessness and follow-up support for people who have made the transition
to shelter.
SHIFTS: Relief, On-call, Day &
Evening Shifts
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide onsite case
management and referral services to people who are living outdoors
- Assist in maintaining
comprehensive records on the program in terms of individuals served,
demographic breakdown, referral details, etc.
- In coordination with
other staff develop innovative methodologies to best serve clients
- Develop and maintain
partnerships with other agencies relevant to our clients
- Provide follow-up
services
- Other duties as
identified by the Manager of Outreach Services
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must have a valid
Ontario Driver’s License (full G class) and clean driving abstract
- This
position requires the successful candidate to provide a Police reference
check as a condition of employment
- 2 years case
management experience
- Knowledge
and understanding of issues as they relate to mental health, addictions,
and homelessness
- Post
secondary education plus experience in the social services
field or acceptable equivalent
- Successful
experience working with a diverse population
- Excellent
organizational skills
- Computer
literate
- Knowledge of Native
traditions and culture is an asset
